Ballack returns in Bayern 0 - Stuttgart 0

Bayern Munich got a 0-0 draw against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, raising the hopes of its Bundesliga rivals. Michael Ballack was back in the main squad after a 28-day injury layoff. The draw slowed a runaway charge by Bayern, off to a 12-2-1 start, and allowed Hamburger SV to close to within four points with a 3-1 victory over Cologne. The next two sides, Werder Bremen and Schalke, also won.

Sebastian Deisler got the first red card of his career after he kicked a player in the 42nd minute.

"We hoped to win in the second half, but after Sebastian Deisler was ejected, we had to play more defensive than usual," coach Magath said.

The return of Bayern's Michael Ballack didn't enliven the match. Stuttgart lacked the creativity to exploit its man advantage and captain Zvonomir Saldo wasted its only two chances on headers.

"The spectators probably didn't get their money's worth," Magath said.

FC Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho said on Friday that he has no intention to sign german midfielder Michael Ballack in the January transfer window.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said Ballack's agent had offered the player to both spanish Real Madrid and Chelsea.

But Mourinho said that Michael did not feature in his plans, and insisted he was not looking to make any signings in the January transfer window.

"I am not even thinking about other players. I don't want players in the open market in January," said Mourinho.

"I don't want players because at this moment I am just concentrating on my squad."

The German international's contract with Munich expires next summer.
